The Bigbang 101

The KPOP world won't be complete without them. These talented group of five have proven a lot in the music scene(dominating and conquering) and even branching out to acting, where they already solidify their names for ages. Introducing the awesome five of k pop boy group Bigbang: GD, Taeyang, T.O.P, Daesung and Seungri.

Let's start with the groups' leader, GD~

GDragon (GD)

Real name: Kwon Ji Young

Age: 22

Date of Birth: August 18, 1988

Position: Leader, Rapper, Vocalist, Composer

Education: Seoul Korean Traditional Arts Middle and High School, KyungHee University

1.      GD is the leader of the group, he has been a trainee of YG since 12.

2.      As a child, he was in a group of Mini Roo'ra( a kids version of Roo'ra group).

3.      He composes the most of the groups material('Lies', 'Last Farewell').

4.      He released his first solo album 'Heartbreaker' last 2009 on his birthday.

5.      He is working along with Teddy in producing the music of fellow YG act 2ne1. He composed the groups debut song 'Fire'.

Taeyang (SoL)

Real name: Dong Young Bae

Age: 22

Date of Birth: May 18, 1988

Position: Main/ Lead vocalist

Education: Daejin University

1.      He made his first appearance on 1TYM's music video along with GD.

2.      Among the members he was the first to release a solo album entitled 'HOT', released on 2008.

3.      He started out as a rapper but ends up as the groups main vocalist.

4.      He already had his first solo concert.

5.      He is known for his free style dancing ability.

6.      After the release of his digital singles 'Where U at' along with 'Wedding Dress', shortly after it topped Mnet and Cyworld charts standing on the number one position.

T.O.P (Tempo)

Real name: Choi Seung Hyun

Age: 23

Date of Birth: November 4, 1987

Position: Rapper, Beat boxer, Composer

Education: Seoul Art College, Dankook 

1. He is the oldest in the group.
2. He won on a KBS Rap Battle last 2003 before joining the group.
3. He acted on some Korean dramas such as 'I am Sam' and suspense teledrama 19 in SBS.
4. He appeared on Gummy's music video for 'Mianhaeyo'(I'm Sorry) opposite Dara of 2ne1.
5. He starred on KBS2 drama 'Iris' alongside Kim Tae Hee and Lee Byung Hun.

Daesung (D Lite)

Real name: Kang Dae Sung

Age: 21

Date of Birth: April 26, 1989

Position: Vocalist

Education: Kyung In High School, KyungHee University

1.      He was recruited via audition.

2.      He was jokingly known as the 'unpretty boy' among the staff.

3.      He received vocal training from Wheesung while being trained.

4.      In April 2007, he decided to quit high school in order to focus on his group.

5.      During his training, he was diagnosed with vocal cord nodules.

6.      He was the first among the members to be a permanent member of a variety show called 'Family Outing' since 2008, appearing regularly.

7.      He is close with fellow Korean celebrities Yoo Jae Sook, Lee Hyori and Kim Jong Kook.

8.      Last August 11, 2009, he was involved in a car accident and unfortunately got minor injury.

Seungri (Victory)


Real name: Lee Seung Hyeon

Age: 19

Date of Birth: December 12, 1990

Position: Vocalist

Education: Chung-Ang University

1.      He is the 'maknae' of the group.

2.      He was born in Gwangju.

3.      Before joining the group, he was a member of Ilhwa, a Gwangju dance team.

4.      He appeared on an episode of Mnet Battle Shinwa, 'Let's Cokeplay'.
